Dems Widen Lead in Generic Matchups With GOP

Democrats hold a lead in generic matchups versus Republicans in this fall’s congressional races according to a new CNN/Opinion Research poll.

56 percent of those surveyed said they favor Democrats in this fall’s elections, while 42 percent said they would vote Republican. The margin widened from a poll earlier this month in which Democrats only held a three point advantage, leading the GOP 49-46 in generic matchups.

Congress’s disapproval rating remains low, the poll found, with 22 percent of those surveyed saying they approve of Congress’s work. 78 percent said they disapprove of Congress.

The survey, conducted September 19 through 21, has a three percent margin of error.
