Palin’s Invite Pulled from NYC Rally
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R) has had her invitation rescinded for a New York City rally next week against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad one day after Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) pulled out of the event because Palin was coming.
Clinton cancelled, aides said, after she was surprised to hear that Palin was coming to something that was not supposed to be “a partisan political event.”
Organizers of the rally, which include several notable Jewish Democrats, said that Palin scheduling the appearance was an effort on behalf of the McCain campaign to make the nonpartisan rally a campaign affair.
McCain said he was disappointed by organizers’ decision.
“Governor Palin was pleased to accept an invitation to address this rally and show her resolve on this grave national security issue, regrettably that invitation has since been withdrawn under pressure from Democratic partisans,” McCain said.
Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor called McCain’s attempt to criticize the Obama campaign for Clinton’s withdrawl “another dishonorable lie.”
