On SportsCenter, Obama Touts Payton, Tweaks Cubs Fans
In case you missed it, below is video of Barack Obama on ESPN’s SportsCenter this week.
In addition to pulling off a spin move on the basketball court against SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott, Obama also weighed in on Chicago sports.
When Scott asked him to name the athlete he’d pick as a running mate, Obama had two answers ready.
“Well, I tell you what. I’m a Chicago guy, so I’m thinking Walter Payton, Sweetness,” Obama said, picking the Chicago Bears’ hall-of-fame running back. “That guy had durability. He could block as well as run.”
Obama also put forth Michael Jordan as a possible veep pick.
“Michael,” Obama said. “Doesn’t lose. And since I haven’t won the presidency yet, that wouldn’t be a bad teammate to have. I’d just keep on feeding him and figure he’d hit the last shot.”
When asked which Chicago baseball team he would root for if both of the cities’ teams made it to the World Series, he went with the White Sox.
“I’m not one of these fair-weather fans,” Obama said. “The Cubs. They’re nice, you go to Wrigley Field, you have a beer. the beautiful people out there. People aren’t watching the game. It’s not serious. White Sox. That’s baseball.”
