Sen. Bennett Predicts Romney As Veep Pick
Sen. Robert Bennett (R-Utah) is predicting that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the candidate he favored in the GOP primaries, will become John McCain’s running mate.
“It’s probably going to happen,” Bennett said in an interview with the Ogden (Utah) Standard-Examiner editorial board Wednesday.
Bennett added: “Romney fills the holes in McCain’s resume. By his own admission, McCain doesn’t have a lot of knowledge about the economy, but Mitt Romney does.”
Both Romney and Bennett are Mormon. Romney also has close ties to Bennett’s state; he was the CEO of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Bennett also said that Romney, though 61, would bring a young, vigorous presence that could help McCain, who is 71, the newspaper reported.
