Patrick Gives Props to Romney

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) offered a begrudging compliment to his predecessor, former Gov. Mitt Romney (R), for Romney’s role in creating the state’s new health plan.

“It was signed into law by Gov. Romney. And, why not? Give him a shout out. I give him credit,” Patrick said to a fairly skeptical audience at a Service Employees International Union event Wednesday.

Romney may very well be John McCain’s running mate, as some have reported the Arizona senator having picked his veep choice and Romney’s name has been mentioned as a possibility.

Patrick, who is close to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, couldn’t resist tacking on a jab, though. “He then immediately vetoed the funding for it,” Patrick said of Romney.
