Plouffe Warns Obama Volunteers of RNC Cash
A couple days after laying out Barack Obama’s general election strategy for the press, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe briefed volunteers on the strategy in a Web video.
“The reason we think we can be competitive in Georgia, North Dakota, Alabama [and] North Carolina is because you guys built a tremendous organization on the ground,” Plouffe said.
Plouffe said that volunteers who aren’t in swing states can help by working to increase voter registration, elect down-ballot Democratic candidates and build a grassroots organization.
He also used the video briefing to call for more donations, noting that John McCain’s campaign plans to draw from the money advantage the Republican National Committee (RNC) has over the Democratic National Committee (DNC). While Obama has $43.1 million in cash on hand and McCain has $36 million, the RNC has $55.5 million on hand, far more than the DNC’s $3.97 million.
