Obama Cuts Ad for Pro-War Dem
Barack Obama has cut a radio ad for pro-war Democratic Congressman John Barrow (Ga.) who in 2006 told constituents “we can’t cut and run.”
Barrow, who is white and represents a district that is 44.5 percent black, is facing a challenge in the state’s July 15 primary from state Sen. Regina Thomas, who is black. Thomas has yet to report any fundraising.
“We’re going to need John Barrow back in Congress to help change Washington and get our country back on track,” Obama says in the ad. “He is already standing up to lobbyists and the Republicans who go right down the line with George Bush.”
“John is not afraid to take a tough stand to do what is right,” Obama says.
Barrow, a member of the Blue Dog coalition, endorsed Obama in February.
Obama is supporting Barrow in the primary despite frequently mentioning that he has opposed the Iraq war from the beginning.
But with Obama now the standard-bearer of the Democratic Party and pledging to run in all 50 states, defending Democratic incumbents regardless of their views may come with the territory.
