Rep. Blackburn: McCain Will Pick A ‘Non-Traditional Candidate’
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), when pressed to hazard a guess as to who John McCain would pick as his running mate, suggested that he’ll tap someone unexpected.
“Well, I think one of the things you’re going to see with the McCain decision, and this is just my own speculation, is that he will choose a non-traditional candidate,” she told CNN’s Larry King on Monday. “It would not surprise me to see a female. It would not surprise me to see a person of color. It would not surprise me to see a businessman, maybe someone like Fred Smith, who is the head of FedEx, who knows how to run a business. I think that you’re going to see somebody outside of the box. McCain has always been a maverick and I think you’re going to see that come through as he chooses a running mate.”
Smith, a fraternity brother of George W. Bush at Yale and a former Marine, is also the co-chairman of McCain’s campaign.
