Rasmussen: Lautenberg Barely Leads GOP Opponent

A new poll suggests that Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) might have a tougher race than expected.

Lautenberg, seeking his fifth Senate term, leads former Rep. Dick Zimmer (R), 48 percent to 47 percent, according to the latest Rasmussen survey. Just as troubling for Lautenberg is his favorability ratings; 48 percent see him as favorable while 47 percent take an unfavorable view. Zimmer, who served in the House from 1991 to 1997, has a favorability rating of 46 percent compared to an unfavorability rating of 38 percent.

In Rasmussen’s presidential poll for New Jersey, Barack Obama leads John McCain, 48 percent to 39 percent.
