Huckabee Aids Choking Man
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee helped a choking man over the weekend by performing the Heimlich maneuver at the North Carolina State Republican Convention.
Huckabee, the events keynote speaker, was sitting a few seats from state Senator Robert Pittenger when he began choking.
The former Republican presidential candidate, who was trained and certified as an EMT in college, immediately got up from his chair, walked over to Pittenger and performed the maneuver.
Pittenger, who is running for Lieutenant Governor in North Carolina, was quickly relieved.
“It was honestly one of those things, I didn’t even think about it, I just simply said, ‘excuse me,’ to the person to whom I was speaking, got up, walked over, pushed the person aside who was patting him on the back, and, you know, did even think about being rude, just said, “excuse me,” and reached around Robert, gave him the Heimlich maneuver three or four times, the item dislodged, and he was fine,” Huckabee said on Fox & Friends Monday.
“Let me be very clear, there’s nothing heroic about — I mean, I’ve heard people say, ‘Oh, he’s a hero.’ There’s no — a hero is somebody who risk himself to do something for someone else. There was no risk to me,” Huckabee said.
Pittenger said he was choking on a piece of turkey and told Huckabee, “I’m indebted for life.”
The state Senator joked that Huckabee “sure showed the rest of the world he’s fully committed to be pro-life.”
