Harkin: McCain’s Worldview ‘Trapped’ by Time in Military

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) believes that John McCain “has a hard time thinking beyond” his military experience, saying the former prisoner of war’s mind is “trapped” by a life spent in the military, according to the Des Moines Register.

“Everything is looked at from his life experiences, from always having been in the military, and I think that can be pretty dangerous,” Harkin said.

The Des Moines Register first reported the story more than a week ago, but since that time the statements have been recirculated by bloggers.

McCain spokesman Jeff Sadosky told the Register that Harkin’s comments “shows just how out of touch Democratic leadership has become with the values that have made our country so great.”

Harkin says he will not endorse a presidential candidate until after June 3.
