McCain Insists Ahmadinejad Is Iranian Leader
Supporters of Barack Obama defending him against Republican criticisms of his proposal to talk with leaders of Iran note that Obama hasn’t specifically said he would meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has called for the destruction of Israel. Obama backers point out that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, not Ahmadinejad, sets Iran’s foreign policy.
They, and Time’s Joe Klein, are now jumping over remarks by John McCain in which the Republican presidential candidate insists that Ahmadinejad is the country’s leader over protests from a questioner that Khamenei is the one to pay attention to.
“McCain used to know who the actual rulers of Iran are,” Klein writes.
