New N.C. GOP Ad Features Obama and Wright
The North Carolina Republican Party released a television ad Wednesday that tries to tie two Democratic candidates for governor to the Barack Obama and his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
The ad includes photos of Obama and the two Tar Heel Democrats, Lt. Gov. Bev Purdue and State Treasurer Richard Moore, which run alongside the clip of Wright saying “God damn America.” A narrator then says that Purdue and Moore should know better than to endorse Obama, whom the party calls “too extreme for North Carolina.”
Moore and Purdue are running to replace Gov. Mike Easley (D), who cannot run for another term.
John McCain’s campaign has already denounced the ad, telling The Page that McCain “strongly rejects this ad and the type of politics that degrades our civics.”
Obama’s campaign has yet to respond.
