Dems Split on Whether Extended Primary Hurts Party

A new Gallup poll shows Democratic voters are split 48-48 on whether the extended primary fight between Sens. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is hurting the party.

Not surprisingly the majority of Obama backers think the drawn-out campaign is hurting the party while Clinton supporters are happy to see the election continue.

The two camps are also split on whether the primary fight has become too negative. Roughly 60 percent of Obama supporters thinks the campaign has gotten too negative. Approximately the same percentage of Clinton supporters think the opposite.
