Pravda, the still-functioning online version of the former Soviet Union’s newspaper, offered faint praise for Barack Obama’s victory in the presidential election, but said any U.S. president would be better than George W. Bush.
“Only Satan would have been worse than the Bush regime,” the newspaper said in an English translation of its editorial. “Yet in choosing Obama, the people of America have opted to come back into the international fold. Welcome back, friends!”
The paper expressed skepticism that much would change in the U.S. due to “powerful lobbies control the strings which control the puppets in Washington.”
“Barack Obama is one man who has a mission and a dream,” Pravda said. “He will not change the world, as he claims and he might not even change the USA, in the near future at least.”
