Obamas quietly consider D.C. area churches to attend
The director of the White House Office of Faith-Based Initiatives is coordinating the First Family’s search for a church to attend while in Washington.
Joshua DuBois, director of the office, has been inundated with requests from churches and their pastors, and is carefully reviewing options based on several criteria, the Boston Globe reported Sunday.
Criteria for the Obamas include a youth ministry for the First Daughters, community outreach, and a good match with the president’s religious beliefs. DuBois also told the Globe that the church would need to be logistically able to handle a presidential visit.
“We want to make sure we’re respectful of that community,” he said.
According to the Globe, churches under consideration include 19th Street Baptist, Asbury United Methodist Church, Mount Cavalry Baptist Church, Foundary United Methodist Church, Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, and Shiloh Baptist Church.
