Report: Obama Seeks Emanuel as Chief of Staff

Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) has been offered the position of chief of staff in President-elect Barack Obama’s administration, ABC News is reporting.

Citing a “knowledgable source,” ABC reports that Emanuel, a Chicago-area ally of Obama who has been said to have designs to one day be Speaker of the House, has not yet given his answer.

Emanuel was elected to Congress in 2002 from Illinois’s 5th congressional district, and has since been a rising star among House Democrats. He chaired the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) during the 2006 midterm elections that saw Democrats take over the House, and is the fourth-ranking Democrat in the House.

Emanuel worked in the White House before, serving as a political adviser to President Bill Clinton.
