Dems Float $825B Stimulus, A Third from Tax Cuts

The House Appropriations Committee unveiled the Democrats’ proposed economic stimulus Thursday, totaling at $825 billon, with a third of the total coming from tax cuts, and the rest coming from spending initiatives.

The plan calls for $550 billion in spending on energy and the environment, road and bridge infrastructure, education, and other priorities.

Democrats touted the “unprecedented accountability” installed in the bill via measures to provide oversight and, notably, ban earmarks in the legislation.

The plan also calls for a $79 billion bailout for states’ budgets, a priority pressed for by governors in both parties in recent weeks.

The $225 billion in tax cuts are to be marked up by the House Ways and Means Committee, the report released today said.
