Americans Love Canada, Obama’s Thurs. Destination

Canada, the destination of President Obama’s first foreign trip, is Americans’ most favored nation, a new independent poll released Thursday found.

90 percent of Americans told the Gallup Poll they had a favorable opinion of Canada, helping the U.S.’s northern neighbors edge out Great Britain as the most favored nation.

Six percent of Americans surveyed said they had an unfavorable opinion of Canadians.

President Obama is traveling to Canada today to meet with their government’s leaders and discuss the trade relationship between the two countries.

89 percent of Americans said they had a favorable opinion of Great Britain, followed by Japan at 81 percent and Germany at 79 percent.

Iran, North Korea, and the Palestinian Authority were Americans’ least favorite foreign governments, Gallup found. 80 percent of Americans said they had an unfavorable opinion of Iran, while 77 percent expressed similar sentiments toward North Korea. 73 percent of Americans said they had an unfavorable opinion of the Palestinian Authority.

The poll, conducted February 9-12, has a three percent margin of error.
