Mitt Romney’s campaign has a released a new television ad featuring a woman who backs the GOP nominee after voting for President Obama in 2008.
{mosads}The 30-second spot comes as new polls show Romney making gains in swing states after his much-applauded debate performance on Wednesday night.
But the former governor still lags behind Obama with women voters, polls have found.
The new ad shows a small-business owner, Melanie McNamara, speaking with remorse about her vote for Obama.
“I’m disappointed in Barack Obama as my president because he promised … that we’re all going to be able to prosper,” McNamara tells the camera. “I don’t see the prospering.”
The ad makes a bid for women voters by arguing that Romney will be better for the economy – an issue women care about, McNamara says, because “you think about your children.”
In a slide of text, the ad states that “there are over 450,000 more unemployed women” since Obama took office, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“What I want to think about is a future that has jobs, where our economy is growing again. That’s important to women, and it’s important to me,” McNamara says.
McNamara is from North Carolina, a crucial swing-state, and this is not the first time her support for Romney has put her in the spotlight.
Romney and his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), visited her furniture company in August for a campaign rally and a major interview with Bob Schieffer of CBS.
The Romney campaign did not say where or when the new ad will run.
