King calls for Benghazi intelligence reports

{mosads}In a letter sent to the White House on Friday, King asked the administration to release a bevy of intelligence data, including edited transcripts of radio traffic from the State Department and intelligence community and redacted copies of instant messages, e-mails, and other communications that led officials to say an anti-Islam film trailer incited the attack. He also called for the administration to release “subsequent Intelligence Community analyses which led your administration to determine that the events of September 11, 2012 represented a terrorist attack.”

King’s letter is just the latest example of congressional Republicans taking the Obama administration to task for its handling of the Libya attack that killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens. GOP lawmakers have taken aim at administration officials for changing their accounts of what sparked the attack and initially pegging it on the online film trailer.

The administration’s handling of the Libya attack is expected to come up again during the final presidential debate between President Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney on Monday in Boca Raton, Fla.

In the letter, King cited recent comments made by the president and Vice President Biden in which the two vowed to investigate what happened during the attack. He noted that during the vice presidential debate this month, Biden had “made an absolute commitment to ‘get to the bottom’ of the Benghazi attack” and committed to making the details “‘clear to the American public.'”
