OK, so he won’t actually be “Sir Ted,” but Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) is set receive honorary knighthood.
The London Times reports that British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will make the announcement when he address Congress today. Kennedy, who the Times called “arguably America’s best-known Irish-American,” is receiving the honor because of his work mediating the Northern Ireland peace process.
Kennedy, who is currently recovering from brain cancer, won’t be “Sir Ted,” the Times notes, because the title is not allowed for foreign recipients. He will be allowed to ad KBE – Knight of the British Empire – to the end of his name (which is way less cool).
