Rangel’s advice to Obama: Avoid Harlem

President Obama may not even be safe in East Harlem, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) suggested after a tragic shooting in the New York neighborhood late this week.

Rangel cracked that the neighborhood, which he represents in Congress along with much else of northern Manhattan, may not be safe for the president.

“Make certain he doesn’t run around in East Harlem unidentified,” Rangel said after an appearance, according to the New York Daily News. Rangel had been asked what advice he’d give to Obama as he and the First Lady visit New York City this evening.

The shooting earlier this year involved a white officer shooting and fatally killing an off-duty African American officer in East Harlem. The Rev. Al Sharpton has called for a federal investigation of the shooting.
