Some Democrats may be frustrated by all the efforts to reach a compromise with Republicans on the stimulus package, if Saturday Night Live skits are any judge.
This Saturday’s opening skit featured impersonators of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), in which Reid has to restrain Pelosi’s constant scoffs at the need for bipartisanship on the stimulus bill.
“In the House, we made no concessions because, thanks to our majorities, we don’t have to,” the Pelosi character (Kristen Wiig) said. “And can I say that I am so happy that bipartisanship is so important to Republicans again. For eight years, they didn’t seem to care much about reaching across the aisle, but now it’s ‘Boo-hoo, what about us?’ Give me a break.”
“We want to stress: don’t focus on these numbers,” the Pelosi character says.
“It will just bum you out,” Reid (Fred Armisen) adds.
