FBI Chief skeptical of bringing Gitmo detainees to U.S.

Like Senate Democrats (and Republicans, for that matter), FBI Director Robert Mueller is not on board with a plan to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay if it would mean bringing detainees to the U.S., he said Wednesday.

Mueller, testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, said those detainees would pose risks and could support other terrorists in planning and executing attacks on the U.S, according to the Associated Press.

“The concerns we have about individuals who may support terrorism being in the United States run from concerns about providing financing, radicalizing others,” Mueller said. He also cautioned against “the potential for individuals undertaking attacks in the United States.”

Senate Democrats on Tuesday voted against funding President Obama’s to close Gitmo by the end of the year until the administration provides a detailed plan of where its 240 detainees will be transported.

Expect Republicans to pounce on these remarks…
