Bloomberg to Attend Fossella Farewell

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) will attend a farewell party for outgoing Rep. Vito Fossella (R-N.Y.), who decided against a reelection bid after a drunk driving arrest this year.

“Congressman Fossella has been a supporter and ally of the mayor,” Loeser told The New York Post.

Fossella, the only Republican House member in New York City, also admitted to having a child with his mistress after his arrest in May. He was convicted of drunk driving in October. In November, Democrat Mike McMahon won his seat.

Bloomberg won both of his mayoral terms as a Republican. He dropped his party affiliation to become an independent last year. He plans to seek a third term in 2009.
