VIDEO: Goolsbee likens GOP budget to a fortune cookie

The Republican budget is like a fortune cooke compared to the plan put forth by the Obama administration, the top economist for the president’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board (ERAB) claimed Friday.

“The Republicans’ budget is completely different,” ERAB chief economist Austan Goolsbee said in an interview on CNBC. “It’s basically just a throwback to eight years ago, and it almost looks like something they got out of a fortune cookie.”

“As opposed to the multi-hudred page document with details that the president put out, this is a little short thing that says let’s just cut taxes for the highest income people and hope it trickles down,” Goolsbee added.

Goolsbee seemed to characterize the GOP proposals as unserious compared to the Democratic budget, with the Republican plan only rehashing familiar ideas.

“That didn’t work,” Goolsbee asserted of Republican policies in previous years. “If that had worked, we wouldn’t be where we are today, and so I don’t see why they’re going back to that.”
