McCain takes twitter to the Senate floor

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a recently prolific user of Twitter, took his interest in the social networking website to the Senate floor yesterday, where he spoke of the technology.

“Over the past few days, I have been listing a top 10 each day of some of the most stunning provisions,” McCain said during an impassioned speech on the Senate floor Monday.

“I have been twittering,” he added. “Remarkably, it would take me almost 3 years to list every earmark–if I continued to list the top 10–until all the more than 9,000 were mentioned. I state this to put some perspective on the enormity of this level of earmarking.”

(The BBR cataloged some of McCain’s countdown yesterday, including his hope for an earmark for a tribute to Gene Autry’s “Back in the Saddle Again.”)

Just last week, McCain started to tweet from his BlackBerry.
