Hoekstra to GOP: Talk Unfiltered to the Public
Republican lawmakers need to take advantage of more unfiltered modes of communication, Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) said Wednesday.
Hoekstra said that microblogging service Twitter and other forms of new media were the topic of discussion at today’s Republican conference meeting.
“Communications unfiltered is an opportunity we need to use,” Hoesktra twittered from the meeting on his BlackBerry.
Hoekstra, an active Twitter user, announced he would be retiring at the end of this term, fueling speculation he may run for governor in 2010. The chairman of Michigan’s Republican Party, Saul Anuzis, who is also a candidate to head the Republican National Committee, is also an active Twitter user.
Via Twitter, Hoekstra observed yesterday: “Rough day for Obama administration. Not paying taxes is bad for Treasury nominee. Distractions not needed now. Hopefully goes away.”
