NYT Tells Dodd to Release Mortgage Records

The New York Times is calling on Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) to finally release his mortgage records, months after a report found that he received favorable treatment on two home loans.

Dodd, the Senate Banking Committee chairman, said last summer that he would reveal documents showing he hadn’t received preferred treatment from Countrywide Financial Corp. Dodd, however, hasn’t released the documents.

“Mr. Dodd admits he was extended ‘courtesies’ by Countrywide,” The Times writes in its editorial Tuesday. “It’s time for him to extend some courtesy to his constituents and the rest of the nation and release the records on the mortgages, without delay.”

Dodd had told the Hartford Courant last week that the explanations for the loans would become “obvious at the time when it’s the right time.”
