Stevens Takes the Witness Stand

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) is currently testifying in his federal corruption trial.

Stevens was indicted for allegedly accepting gifts from an Alaskan businessman without disclosing properly them. Heading into Thursday’s court session, it was unclear whether Stevens would take the stand during the trial.

His defense team is in the final stages of its case. His wife, Catherine Stevens, testified Thursday that she and her husband believed they had settled all costs for their home renovations, which prosecutors have said were paid for Stevens’s friend, Bill Allen. But she struggled to explain who paid for and built some of the renovations.

TheHill.com will have a story on the senator’s testimony soon after the court recesses Thursday.
