McClellan Will Testify
Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan has accepted the House Judiciary Committee’s invitation to testify on June 20.
Soon after committee chair John Conyers (D-Mich.) sent the invitation to McClellan, the former press secretary’s lawyers announced that McClellan will appear.
McClellan’s testimony will focus on allegations made in his book about White House involvement in the Valerie Plame leak.
Earlier in the day, Conyers said, “in his book, Mr. McClellan suggests that senior White House officials may have obstructed justice and engaged in a cover-up regarding the Valerie Plame leak. This alleged activity could well extend beyond the scope of the offenses for which Scooter Libby has been convicted and deserves further attention.”
Committee lawyers have been in discussions with McClellan’s legal team since May 30 on the terms of McClellan’s appearance.
