Rep. Kirk Wants Second Life Banned From Schools And Libraries
Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) is calling for a ban of Second Life because he fears the online network could be used in the sexual exploitation of children.
Kirk criticized social networks for failing to do enough to protect kids, noting a federal report that found that one children in five have been sexually solicited online.
“As new technologies develop, more disturbing revelations unfold,” Kirk said, according to Information Week. “ Sites like Second Life offer no protections to keep kids from virtual ‘rape rooms,’ brothels and drug stores. If sites like Second Life won’t protect kids from obviously inappropriate content, the Congress will.”
