Boehner: Dems turning House into ‘banana republic’

House Democrats are turning the Congress like a “banana republic,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Wednesday.

Boehner said that Founding Father Thomas Jefferson would be rolling over in his grave if he knew about the flurry of legislation congressional Democrats have tried to pass at a record-setting pace.

“I’ve got to believe that Thomas Jefferson would be rolling over in his grave if he saw how House Democratic leaders were running the Congress of the United States,” Boehner said at a media availability for House Republicans Wednesday morning. “They’re turning it into a banana republic.”

Yesterday, Boehner compared facing the numerous bills before the House this year to standing in front of machine gun fire.

Boehner particularly took aim Wednesday at what he asserted were unfair tactics taken by the majority Democrats to limit opposition Republicans’ options in the House.

“Listen, they’re trying to ramrod as much spending through this Congress as they can, and as fast as they can,” the GOP leader said. “That’s why they continue to limit the number of amendments, try to stifle debate.”
