Vitter: ‘Angry mob’ always welcome at my town halls

An “angry mob” is always welcome at Sen. David Vitter’s (R-La.) town hall meetings, the conservative senator said this past weekend.

Vitter, picking up on the “mob” rhetoric first floated by national Democrats, complimented protesters who have made their way to lawmakers’ district meetings across the country during the August recess.

“Please know that this and any other ‘angry mob’ is welcome to my town hall meetings whenever you want to come,” Vitter said at his meeting Saturday, in a video flagged by the liberal blog The Daily Kingfish.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) had first accused Republicans of inciting an “angry mob” of “rabid right-wing extremists” last week ahead of the August recess in Congress.

Lawmakers have faced boisterous crowds at their meetings in recent days, with more eruptions expected at town halls in the coming week and month.
