A bill to grant voting rights to Washington, D.C. in the House of Representatives advanced through the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee today on an 11-1 vote.
The bill would treat D.C. as a congressional district, except that it would have one voting member instead of two.
Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio) were the only two Republicans to vote for the bill.
