Sen. Lincoln Says Card-Check Bill Isn’t Needed
Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) said that legislation allowing unions to organize without secret-ballot elections is unnecessary.
“I think the question is, is there a need for this legislation right now? And for multiple reasons, I don’t think there is,” Lincoln told The Associated Press.
The bill, known as the Employee Free Choice Act or “card-check,” is backed by most Democrats and unions. Supporters have 57 votes of the 60 needed to block a Senate filibuster, notes Marc Ambinder.
He also points out that Lincoln is up for reelection in 2010. She could face former White House aide and federal prosecutor Tim Griffin, who is considering running for the GOP nomination.
