Bailout Protested Outside Obama HQ
Supporters of former workers from a shuttered Chicago factory protested federal bailouts outside President-elect Obama’s transition headquarters.
“Several hundred” supporters of employees at the Republic Windows & Doors chanted “They got bailed out, we got sold out,” outside Obama’s Clark Street offices in Downtown Chicago on Wednesday. The factory closed last Friday after Bank of America refused to extend a line of credit to the company. The protestors had been picketing outside Bank of America earlier on Wednesday, according to the pool report.
Obama has voiced support for the workers, who want the bank to provide financing to the company so it can provide severance pay. Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) appeared beside them during a news conference Monday, a day before he was arrested on federal corruption charges.
