Boehner Denies Deal on Bailout

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) denied that Republicans have agreed to any deal on a Wall Street bailout plan today, as members of key House and Senate committees met this morning to negotiate.

“As I told our Conference this morning, there is no bipartisan deal at this time.

At least one Republican, House Financial Services Ranking Member Spencer Bachus (Ala.), attended the meeting, but Boehner spokesman Michael Steel stressed that Republicans had not agreed to anything.

“They’re not negotiating with Republicans,” Steel told The Hill.

Democrats and Republicans have publicly disagreed on whether a deal is imminent. Bachus said before the meeting that sides were not close to a deal, while Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) told CNBC
