Oprah to Broadcast From D.C. During Inauguration

Oprah Winfrey, one of President-elect Barack Obama’s big backers during the campaign, will broadcast her afternoon talk show from Washington, D.C., during inauguration week.

“That’s the place to be,” Winfrey told “Access Hollywood.”

She plans to tape one show on Jan. 19 and one more that week. The inauguration is Jan. 20.

Winfrey stumped for Obama in run-up to crucial Democratic nomination contests in Iowa and New Hampshire. She had been loath to talk politics on her show during the campaign. During the general election, she resisted calls to interview Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

“At the beginning of the presidential campaign, when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates,” Winfrey wrote in a statement at the time.
