Obama Pitches for Chicago Olympic Bid

President-elect Barack Obama today sought to convince the General Assembly of the European Olympic Comission (EOC) that Chicago should host the 2016 summer Olympic Games, touching on his new administration’s inclusive tone as he addressed the EOC via taped video message.

Obama has long been an advocate of Chicago’s 2016 bid, and some have speculated that his election victory would boost Chicago’s odds over the other for candidate cities of Tokyo, Madrid, and Rio de Janeiro.

The EOC is one of five one of the five continental associations of the National Olympic Committees and, as part of the Association of National Olympic Committees, makes recommendations to the International Olympic Committee, which decides which cities will host the games.
