Bomb Squad Sweep Near Capitol Finds Nothing Dangerous
The U.S Capitol Police, responding to a report Friday morning of a “suspicious individual” in the Lower Senate Park, found no signs of danger, the police said.
The search by the Capitol Police bomb squad and Hazardous Materials Response Team was prompted by the report of a man with wires coming out of his clothes.
The individual was seen near Louisiana Avenue and D Street just before noon. Sgt. Kimberly Schneider told The Hill that he was wearing an unusual piece of headgear which had wires sticking out of the top. He was also carrying an unidentified object which later proved to be a container of laundry detergent.
Capitol Police brought the man to its headquarters for questioning but subsequently released him without making an arrest. No charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
