Fox’s Jeanine Pirro: Trump was ‘framed’

Fox News host Jeanine Pirro said Sunday that she believes various forces in Washington have conspired to “frame” President Trump and bog down his administration with scandal and controversy.

“Nobody is looking at the corruption. It’s all one-sided, the corruption on the part of the Democrats,” Pirro told radio host John Catsimatidis in an interview on AM 970 New York. “This president was framed. It’s that simple.”

{mosads}“I’ve been in law enforcement for over three decades. This guy was framed,” Pirro continued. “The crisscrossing and the incestuous nature of our government in an attempt to prevent the outsider president that we wanted from getting elected is frightening.” 

Pirro, a former judge and ardent supporter of Trump, echoed claims the president has made before that he was framed “for crimes he didn’t commit.”

In May, Trump tweeted an unverified claim that the FBI placed a mole in his campaign team and suggested that the agency was attempting to “frame” him for alleged wrongdoings associated with special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia.

Mueller’s probe has ensnared several former members of Trump’s campaign with criminal charges, including his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who was convicted last month of eight charges of bank and tax fraud.

Trump and his allies have repeatedly sought to discredit Mueller’s investigation by declaring it a “witch hunt.”

Pirro also took shots at Trump’s Attorney General Jeff Sessions, echoing Trump’s claims that Sessions has been ineffective in leading the Justice Department.

“That guy [Jeff] Sessions, he has no prosecutorial balls. It’s as simple as that. … He’s hiding in the corner. I don’t know what he’s doing,” she said.

Sessions has drawn the president’s ire since he recused himself from Mueller’s investigation. Trump has repeatedly slammed the probe and called on Sessions to take a tougher stance against Mueller’s team.

Amid murmurings that the president could fire Sessions soon, Trump told Bloomberg News earlier this week that he likely wouldn’t fire Sessions before November’s midterm elections. While some Republican senators have opposed such a move, others close to Trump have expressed openness to the idea now.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who previously said there would be “holy hell” to pay should Sessions be fired, appeared to take a new stance on the issue earlier this week. 

“We need an attorney general that can work with the president, that can lead the Department of Justice. This relationship is beyond repair, I think,” he said.
