Last-minute ObamaCare site repairs continue

The ObamaCare website will be a work in progress over the weekend, health officials said Saturday evening.

Saturday marked the deadline for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to fix various problems plaguing HealthCare.gov, but “technical enhancements” will still be made throughout the weekend, said Julie Bataille, the director of communications for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS). 

The site was down for 11 hours Friday night into Saturday morning as the government rushed to meet its self-imposed deadline.

“Last night’s maintenance window allowed a successful installation of new servers to support a critical system database which is already allowing more users to move through that part of the system more quickly than before,” Bataille wrote in a blog post.

The administration also said the HealthCare.gov website is having few errors and quicker response times, despite an influx of visitors.

Bataille add, that “with upgrades last night and those planned for tonight, the team is continuing its ongoing work to make HealthCare.gov work smoothly for the vast majority of users.”

Ultimately, the goal is to have the site handle 50,000 users at once. The rollout of the healthcare shopping website has been troubled since its rollout almost two months ago, making it unavailable to users who tried to register while the site experienced high levels of traffic.

Meeting Saturday’s deadline for the site’s increased capacity would be a boost for the administration.
