Hoyer statement on May jobs report

Since taking their oaths of office in the midst of an economic
crisis, President Obama and the 111th Congress have made it their top
priority to rebuild our economy and fight for the middle class. As part
of that effort, Democrats have passed the Recovery Act, which is
responsible for some 2 million jobs; cut taxes for working families,
homeowners, and small businesses; created innovative programs to
support home energy efficiency and the American auto industry; and,
just last week, passed the American Jobs, Closing Loopholes, and
Preventing Outsourcing Act, which helps restore the flow of credit to
small businesses, extends the important R&D tax credit, and helps
stop corporations from sending American jobs overseas.

Those steps demonstrate the strength of Democrats’ commitment to
undoing the damage caused by the Bush economic collapse. But as long as
so many middle-class Americans remain out of work, our work in Congress
is still not done—which is why job creation will continue to be our top
legislative priority.
