The Big Question: Will liberal Democrats scuttle the Obama-GOP tax deal?

Presumably the tax deal is not written in stone. That means that liberals can have some input and still preserve the deal. The obvious point of focus would be to convert the payroll tax cut into an expanded version of the Making Work Pay tax cut. This would eliminate any potential risks for SS if the tax cut is renewed.

Democrats are angry with the Obama-GOP deal for two reasons.

First, by extending the Bush tax cuts for Americans earning more than $250,000 the deal offends the “hate and envy” tendency of the modern Democrat party.

Two, the Democrat plan was to cancel the tax cuts for all Americans…not just the “rich.”  Proof of this is that for the four years Democrats had the House and Senate they never made a baby step towards permanent extension for anyone.

Democrats have whined that Republicans wanted to extend the tax cuts for all, but they never even prepared legislation to extend them for middle income Americans.  If someone refuses to do something for four years—I think they don’t want to do it.
