Want an economic recovery? Here’s how.

Overall, about 6 in 10 of those surveyed give Obama negative marks on the economy and the deficit. Back in 2008, the president said that if we passed no stimulus package at all, the unemployment rate would be around 8.8 percent in the last quarter of 2010. Instead, we’ve spent another $2.8 trillion in borrowed money, and our unemployment rate is still about 9 percent.

The president’s policies have resulted in higher deficits and have not created jobs, which is exactly why many Americans do not trust his handling of the economy.

I believe that we can ease the burden for Tennesseans and all Americans by ending the cycle of taxing, borrowing and spending, as many Democrats in Congress want to do. Historically, we are better off economically if we enact significant, enforceable cuts to wasteful Washington spending and put the country on a path towards a balanced budget.

Jobs are created and the economy starts to flourish when businesses start producing more. My policy to promote job growth is to create an atmosphere that rewards hard work and innovation and keeps the government out of the way. We can incentivize investment in new jobs and equipment by reducing unnecessary and burdensome regulations, lowering taxes and allowing families and small businesses to decide how to spend their own money.

These are common-sense, American values that all of us can support. Now we all must work together to stabilize the economy. House Republicans are pursuing an agenda that moves this country in line with these principles, but are held up by a Senate majority that refuses to take any action and a Democratic administration that wants to double down on its own failed economic policies. There’s no time to waste – we must take the right action and move the country towards economic recovery.
