American autos drive growth

There’s no question American automakers have made a lasting contribution to the revival of American manufacturing.  Through Jan. 31, FCA US, Ford and General Motors are showcasing their vehicles at the Washington Auto Show, displaying iconic brands like Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Ford and Lincoln.

We are proud of the vehicles they will exhibit, and prouder still of how these three iconic companies are spurring economic growth and job creation across the United States.

{mosads}While our nation’s capital is the host of this auto show, indeed every state in the nation is an “auto state.”  More than 230,000 employees work at more than 226 assembly plants, factories, research labs, distribution centers, and other facilities located in 32 states across the nation. There’s not one part of our economy FCA US, Ford and GM don’t touch.

In the United States, the three companies employ two out of three of America’s autoworkers. The three companies combined produce more of their vehicles, buy more of their parts and conduct more of their R&D here in the United States than any of their competitors. In fact, spending more than $18 billion a year in research and development, FCA, Ford and General Motors each continue to invest more in R&D than tech leaders like Apple and Sony.  They have shown a true commitment to innovation and to being “American Made.”

Auto sales are strengthening as the American economy improves, and that means new jobs to support increased production.  As the companies announce new jobs in the coming year, the ripple effect of such growth will be felt throughout the country.

American automakers were resilient during the downturn and are now putting more Americans back to work while they grow and innovate here at home. The industry represents America’s largest manufacturing sector and drives three percent of our GDP – no other manufacturing sector supports as many jobs.

These American companies will continue to deliver high-quality, fuel-efficient and high-tech vehicles for American families.  The production and sale of these cars and trucks will also continue to support jobs for the U.S.’s growing economy.  We hope you will take a spin over to the D.C. show to check out the vehicles that support so many American jobs.
