Democrats or Republicans: It’s clear who stands with Americans (Rep. Steny Hoyer)

WALL STREET REFORM:

Democrats fought to protect American taxpayers by proposing fair rules of the road that put the referee back on the field.

Republicans fought for big Wall Street banks and maintaining the same failed system that resulted in the financial crisis.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Democrats understand that Americans want us to be tough on spending, so we re-instated PAYGO and will pass a budget enforcement resolution that cuts spending below the president’s budget and commits to considering a long-term plan from the fiscal commission.

Republicans let PAYGO lapse and went on a debt-financed spending spree when they were in charge and now they have no plan to reduce the deficit. Their only serious proposal — Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget — would privatize Social Security, end Medicare as we know it and subject Americans to policies that have been overwhelmingly rejected by the American people.

ECONOMY:

Democrats are working to create jobs and strengthen the economy for American families and small businesses.

Republicans have stood against every effort to create jobs, including the jobs and preventing outsourcing bill, and the Small Business Lending bill Democrats passed in the House during this work period.

HEALTH CARE:

Democrats fought to put Americans in charge of their healthcare instead of insurance companies, and to lower the unsustainable costs that American families and businesses can not afford.

Republicans want to repeal benefits that are already helping American families and businesses, and give the power back to insurance companies.

OIL SPILL:

Democrats are working to protect the American people against the pain wrought by the BP Gulf oil spill — continuing to conduct the necessary oversight, pass policies to protect consumers, and hold BP accountable for this man-made environmental disaster.

Republicans are apologizing to BP for being held accountable.
