The nation’s counties are urging Congress to support the Internet Tax Freedom Act Amendments Act of 2007 (H.R. 3678).
Counties play a major role in the nation’s communications system as regulators, service providers, and consumers of communications services. County officials have a responsibility to ensure that the public interest is being served by communications providers, regardless of the delivery platform.
H.R. 3678 accomplishes three goals: clarity, flexibility, and do no harm. Clarity: a concise definition of internet access reduces confusion and aids in implementation of an extension of the moratorium. Flexibility: a short term extension allows for a review of the moratorium in the future to address what could be significant changes in technologies. Do no harm: by leaving the “grandfather
